Project Overview
The documentary/interview is on the youth camp offered by the. This program began with ... The program has participants who have grown to do amazing things including. The interviewee is an officer, John Johnson of the Maryland... John has been with the department for .... years and has been directly involved with the project since.
Initial Customer Contact
The first step is to contact the subject of the documentary to determine the dates for shooting the interview and the dates for taking on-location videos and stills. As this is a camp environment, I thought it would be best to record the interview in a location that would be more controlled. I sent an email to officer John Johnson asking him if this approach would be acceptable to him and for which dates he would be available.
When contacting the officer, I needed to know the interview location, either at a local office location of his choosing or the camp and the preferred dates. I informed him that shooting the interview portion at a location other than the camp would allow us to control the lighting better. I will capture additional video footage and still images during camp days. I also suggested that we may need to get consent to take photos from those at the camp. An additional consideration was the script for the interview. I asked the client to consider questions he would want to be asked and suggested that he provide a script for him to follow.
Project Preparations
In preparation for the interview recording, I will need to obtain additional equipment to supplement the equipment I currently own. As primarily a stills event photographer, I did not have specific lighting or audio equipment necessary for the video recording. Since videography is not the main focus of my business, I plan to rent the equipment instead of purchasing it. Renting instead of purchasing allows me to evaluate the equipment before buying it for future video work.
